The Senate confirmed Linda McMahon, a billionaire GOP donor and former wrestling executive, as the next Secretary of the Department of Education on Monday, with a 51-45 vote.

This approval, largely expected from the Republican-controlled Senate, comes as McMahon faces the challenge of managing an agency that President Donald Trump has proposed dismantling. Despite Trump’s wishes to “close” the department, McMahon has acknowledged that such a move cannot happen without congressional action. At her confirmation hearing, McMahon recognized the limits of presidential power, noting that the Education Department “clearly could not be shut down without” Congress’s involvement.
